I believe it is appropriate, as we move in to the New Year, to simply say thank you to the customers, vendors, and employees of Haggard & Stocking. All contributed to a successful 2011; and with their continued efforts, a promising 2012 is on the horizon. I would like to believe the American economy has turned the corner. There are so many positive signs to suggest that better days are ahead. Reports indicate that US energy production will lessen our dependence on foreign sources greatly in the months and years to follow. Consumer confidence continues to fuel purchases. Manufacturing in the aerospace, medical and automotive sectors continue their upswing. However, with an election year at hand and the constant barrage from the media concerning the state of the economy, one cannot escape the negative. The larger question at hand for all of us seems to be the European economy. We are all linked –like it or not- to their economic situation. Many of our suppliers Guhring, Walter, Titex, Emuge, Komet , Saint Gobain etc. are in the middle of this . What the future holds for the Euro Zone is anyone’s guess. Add to this the tough Japanese situation and we all should be glad to be here in the USA. The state of the Japanese economy will actually benefit the US as additional Japanese auto production moves to America. The Wall Street Journal reports that 40% of current Japanese auto production will be sourced to US facilities.

There are many American choices for MRO and tooling. I believe they provide opportunities for our customers. It is possible that their importance will grow significantly in the months to come. We remain confident in the ability of the United States to “find a way” in today’s marketplace. We remain confident in Haggard & Stocking’s ability to provide our customers value and solutions to their problems in the New Year !

I have recently thought a lot about the phrase a “New Chapter” in what it means. We all have the opportunity to write our lives chapters in positive ways to build positive memories. I have thought what writing a “New Chapter” means to me with regard to my friends, my family, as well as my company. I have a couple of friends who are expecting their first child and they asked me to write a note for the expectant father about my fatherhood experiences. What really hit home to me as I was helping to prepare my friend for the next chapter in his life was that I was just about to the end that chapter in mine.

In a few months our youngest will be going to college and my wife and I will be empty nesters for the first time. We have all heard…“Enjoy your kids because they grow up too quick”. How true that is! I am very thankful that I took the time to enjoy my kids while they were young. I am very proud of the young adults they have become and very proud of the time we have had together over the years. I began to realize that as I am about to move to the next chapter of my life I enjoy looking back and reflecting on my past chapters. Hopefully as we write these chapters in our lives we will do so in a way that reflecting back will bring us great joy.

This past Christmas I was not exactly sure what to give my Grandmother of 89 years. At the spur of the moment I took the time to frame a couple of old pictures of the old general store where she worked. I also included in the frame a brief story of my childhood memories of sneaking away from home and riding my bike the 4 miles to the store when my mom thought I was just playing in the woods. I would share a soda pop out of the porch cooler with my Grandma. Boy did I think I was somebody! My Grandmother is not one who shows emotion, however, this is the first gift that I can ever remember that brought tears to her eyes. She talked about it all Christmas…and when she realized I remembered and cherished those times, she thought it was the greatest gift that could ever be given!

Recently at our company Christmas luncheon we took a trip back in time reflecting on where the company has come since our founding in 1972. It is amazing to me that we once were located in a little 3 bedroom house with a handful of employees. Today we are in multiple states with five buildings in our Indianapolis corporate location. We have built a lot of memories to be proud of, but the best part was the look into our future of the new opportunities that are before us to write new chapters in the life of our company and our employees.

We have the new partnership in our Airlines group that could take us to global locations; we have the development of our new vending division that has already opened a lot of new doors; we have the new acquisition of a company that will bring us our new fastener division of Haggard & Stocking as well as many more opportunities. Just like with the lives of my kids I want to savor these moments and enjoy them. I am excited that I will be sharing the next chapter in my business life with a great staff of people in one of the best companies in the Industry. I cannot think of a better company or group of people that I want in “my story”.

I personally have been blessed with a wonderful family and a group of employees/friends that has allowed H&S to grow and prosper. I feel H&S was blessed with prosperity during 2011 because of the efforts of all our employees and I can guarantee you that 2012 will be a year of great achievement and growth. With the dedication of the H&S family and the support of our vendors and customer base we will be a bigger and better company. Let us not forget to be thankful for the gifts and opportunities God has bestowed upon us this past year. Please take time during this busy holiday season to remember the true meaning of Christmas and the sacrifice Jesus made for us.

Be safe and Happy New Year,
